Unit 33 The development of stop motion animation Assignment 1
Here are the principle of animation, Timing, ARC and Poses , Secondary action, Gravity, Persistence of vision, Overlapping and following through.
Time- Timing is the number of frame that is given in action, which means that it is the speed of the action on film. Timing is critical for establishing a character mood, emotion and reaction.
ARC and Poses- Arc and poses does not have to be in a straight lines but it does follow the curves of the arc. The reason why it follow the curve is because it shows more natural movement. This can apply to limb moving by rotating a joint, or to throw an object.
Secondary action-A secondary action is an action that directly goes in a action, Secondary action are important to interest and adding a realistic to the animation. In the case of facial expression, during dramatic movement.
Gravity- Gravity is where all bodies physical bodies attract each other. Gravity is where it gives weight to physical object and causes them to fall toward the ground when drop.
Persistence of vision- Persistence vision is a theory where an afterimage and it can give the effect of animation with a human eye at certain rate.
Overlapping and following through- Overlapping and following through is where some of the objects don't move all at the same time/at the same time. If you do want to have it at the same time you have think and find where the center of gravity is. Follow through is where it continues the movement of a stroke for example if you are playing cricket it will continue the movement of a stroke after the ball has been struck. Overlapping action is where you extend over so you can cover stiff partly and it is to move the body at different rates here is an example if you move your arm on different timing from your own body.
There are some difference between the new stop motion animation and the old one. Here are some example, in some old stop motion animation when the character walks or do any body movement you can tell that it is not smooth and like in the same pace but in the old stop motion it is all lagging and not smooth. Also some old stop motion animation colour and not bright they are dark colour or black and white but in the early 2000's there have been colour that is eye catching and makes you want to watch.

1972 Aardman Animation
NyQuil- 1980
Made by- Joop Geesink
Target Audience- Adults, Pensioners
The genre for this 1980's stop motion animation is comedy because of the dialogue and they way they are and look.
The figure of movement in this animation is quite shifty as they do not have legs and arm so they are just tumbling to move. Also because they are object so some object does not have arm and legs like action figure etc it is a tablet that just shuffle and tumble over to move. They have broke the principle of animation, and they have not followed the ARC principle because they are not holding any props like guns, knife etc. so it is like not effect.
Facial expression- There are no facial expression because the object have no face to express they just used a product with no face like ketchup, pills, sweet, bottle etc. so we do not know what their facial expression is.
Sound- The sound is quite humorous because they are more than 1 object speaking and they all have different tone in their voice, for example there is a object that uses a high pitch voice and some with a low pitch voice. also it is quite funny as they uses dialogue and trying to be funny.
Time- In this stop motion the timing of the frame is quite quick then slow so the character mood is quite rushed as it is quick also it is an advert so they have rushed the time of frame. Also if the frame is fast you can not see the emotion or reaction because the time of frame is too fast so timing is critical.
Arc and poses- There is no Arc or poses as they are object with no arm and leg, the way they walk is smooth there is no jerking movement it is all smooth but they are not walking as they do not have legs so if object want to move somewhere they have to roll or shuffle.
Secondary action- There is secondary action because there are no facial reaction on the object so we can not see there facial reaction if something good or something bad happen, you can only hear if something bad happens or something good happen.
South park- 1997
Made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone
Target audience- Adults, Older teens
The genre for this 1997 south park is Adult comedy and sitcom. The reason why it is a Adult comedy is because they swear with a funny voice for adults to laugh and many more.
The figure of movement - The figure of movement is shifty as they are paper stop motion so they dont walk like a human they like do little jump if they want to walk o they shuffle to walk as well.
Facial expression- There facial expression are quite good because they are drawn faces that looks like real humans so when they get terrified or speak you can see that the facial expression move because they are make like real person. When they talk you can see that they move their mouth etc.
Sound- The sound is quite good because they have used voice over so that it look like they are really talking. Also when they talk they use different type of sound so they use a high pitch voice to make people laugh when they hear it.
Time- In this South park stop motion you can see that the time of frame is slow so you can see everything like the facial expression, the emotion and reaction because the time of frame is slow. Also it is not like an advert so it is not rushed it is. Here is an example at the video time of (2.09) you can see that the frame is slow.
Arc and poses- In this south park stop motion you can see that they have broken the principle of ARC when they all had arm and leg so they can hold props and they can walk like human. You can see that the stop motion is smooth because there are no jerking and shaky movement when they walk its all smooth and clean.
Secondary action- There is secondary action as you can see there facial reaction when they have done or said something wrong, here is an example at (2:17) you can see that they have said something wrong and the facial reaction has change.
Modern Stop motion Software (2000)
Claymation made by kids- 2002
Made by kids in school
Target audience- kids age 4-8
The genre for this kids stop motion is comedy because it is the way they look, the way they sound.
The genre for this children stop motion is comedy because it is the way they look, the way they sound, also because it is a claymation that also make it funny for kids because it is a kiddish thing. Also they uses the dialogue that makes it funny as well like a one liner dialogue.
The figure of movement is realistic as the clay model has arm and legs so they have broken the principle of animation. It also follows the ARC principle because they need to hold a prop and what the clay model hold is the chicken leg, pizza, shell and the phone and they have done this because to create the effect of realism,, give food to the cat, put the pizza in the oven, in dream blow the shell and ring the fire ambulance.
Sound -
well synced
oven burning realism
dialogue
special effect- alarm, fire, water etc.
sound effect- alarm fire, water cat
Time-In this stop motion animation you can see that the timing of the frame is slow because you can see everything in this stop motion like there emotion, and reaction because of the time frame is slow. Here is an example where you can see the emotion change (1:15) you can see that the clay person was dreaming and when he heard the bell his emotion change and woke up terrified thinking what to do.
Arc and Pose-There is Arc and Pose because he has picked an object up like the food and gave it to his cat. it is all smooth as well because when he was walking it was not jerky her is an example (0:18) you can see that he walks perfect like a human.
Secondary Action- There is Secondary action because you can see the facial reaction here is an example (1:17) he see the fire and his facial expression has change.

The difference between the old stop motion animation and the new stop motion animation is that in the old stop motion animation have different style than the new one for example the color change in the old stop motion animation the color is black and white but in new stop motion animation there is color so that gives it more exciting and fun to watch,
Also if you look at some old stop motion animation you can see that the movement in the old one is shifty and lagging but in the new stop motion motion the movement is smooth and in pace, In the old stop motion the movement of their body or (ARC) is quite rubbish as there arm don't move that much and it is stiff but in the new stop motion animation the movement of the body is quite good as they improve the arm and leg movement.

The Development of stop motion animation
Clay
Genre- The genre for this stop motion is action as there are 2 clay model fighting.
Figure of movement- The figure of movement is normal as the clay model had legs and arms so it is not stiff as some claymation where they have no leg and arm they just shuffle when they want to move. Also the arm and leg are humanly n because they have broken a principle of of animation. it also follow the principle of gravity because Godzilla was swinging Angurus all over the place.
Facial expression- The facial expression is tension as both Godzilla and Angurius was roaring and giving the angry facial expression. The reason why the facial expression was intense because they was both roaring with passion and it was trying to say who is the strongest.
Sound- The background music fits on at the intro of the clip and all the way through till the end of the clips. You can hear them roar and it is like realism, foot stomp realism, when they are roaring it is like a dialogue, also when godzilla swings the Angurius around and the angurius hits it back there is a special effect where when he hits it back there is a puff of smoke and that shows how power full the swing was.

Video technolois stgy and Editing techniques
What is high definition in TV and film ? HDTV which stands for high definition television is a higher resolution than a standard definition television. If you have a HDTV you can tell that it is better than a standard television because with the High Definition TV the image on the screen will make it more lifelike and with the 720p and the 1080p that will give you the best quality viewing experience that you have ever seen.
If you look at this image this is a High definition television vs a normal standard television
and as you can see that the HDTV is more better, cleaner, brighter and more exciting than the Standard TV which is boring, bland and dull.
Here is another image of the HD vs SD and as you can see if you look at the SD side of the TV you can see a hill but it is not clear it is blurry but if you look at the HD side of the TV you can see that the HD have all the detail's on the hill, the sea etc.
Here is a picture of the Aspects ratio of TV and films. Usually this is measured as a ratio between the width and the height of the frame, here is an example full screen also know as classic TV format usually refers to a width of 4 unit or pixels by a height of 3 unit or 4:3.
Widescreen video can refer to a different aspects ratio but its common for a 16 unit by a height of 9 unit which is 16:9.
For a aspect ratio of 4:3 which was the viewing angle of a human eye but however film directors and cinematographers preferred to use a wider format that provides more visual real estate to help to tell the story. Some directors may even use wider 2.39:1 film stock. When it comes to cinema, aspects ratio are written as the width VS one unit of height, this is why you'll see a ratio like 2.39:1.
According to Google it is saying that the 16:9 is better for TV and film and it is true because the 16:9 is common for TV and film around the world so it is common worldwide and it is widescreen so it is perfect for TV and films.
A composite signal send standard definition transition to your devices and it is a composition also known as a composite of 3 signals and they are luminates and 2 color. Composite signals are used to connect to some devices such as DVD'S, VCR in to televisions it is not HD signals so you might not be getting dome good quality. A component signal is a much better quality the composite as the signal is not crush together it strips into 3 parts the luminous and the 2 color channel for better quality. You have to remember that the seperate audio signals are needed when using a composite or an component.
HDMI is a connector that allows HD video and audio to be senced through your devices taht connect to your TV such as your DVD player and blue ray player or any console but HDMI cables will not be used in the industry setup these are only for people at homes this is because the HDMI cable will have some difficaulty sending the siginal in 3 weeks cabling than 10 meters. If you are broadcasting you need a XLR cable this will connect your sound to the mixing desk which will then send to the visual mixer it matters about the lenth of the cable for a better quality.
Digital filming is a process of capturing images digitaly as a pose of historicaly use of film's real. A film reals is almost like a negative, in digital filming digital footage is stored on hard disc or flash memory or anything that can record digital data. Some of Hollywood film are now shot partly or fully of digital. Traditional film camera maker like arry, SONY, Panasonic and panavision aswell as newswenders like red have all developed digital camera. Some Hollywood film do use digital camera like starwars but hollywood producer like Cristopher Nolan says that digital camera has lost the way off a film should look like. Digitals are now going tapeless.
Terrestrial TV is a type of television broadcasting using radio siginals from transmission and television antennas and tuners for reception. The term is more common in Europe. while in north America it is refered to a broadcast television or something over the air television (OTA).
It was turned off because it was replaced with digital terrestrial TV. On the 24th October 2012 Analogue Terrestrial TV was replaced by the Digital Terrestrial TV, Analogue TV was used for over 70-75 years allowing people to use a teletex service whilse watching TV called creefax and it is now used for a red button that we use today.
