Unit 24 Assignment (Podcast)

How do you become a writer and whats it like to work as one?

  • According to this site, To be come a screen writer you would have to "Educate your self" and by that you would have to learn the basic of screen writing and that is reading books about screen writing and that will help you understand the basics structure of screen writing, Also from creating interesting characters and plot to the development of engaging and proper story structure.

  • According to "About careers" website, they are saying that there are 3 books you need to read to understand the structure of screenwriting and they are:

  • Story Structure by Robert McKee
  • Screenplay by Syd Field
  • and Screenwriters Problem Solver by Syd Field

  • One you have know the basic of screenwriting structure you just need to practice.

  • According to some sites like io9.com it says that what it like to work as a script writer is you are paid to work in conditions of your body while brainstorming fantasy. People who write script even makes mistakes to their profession.

What is a staff writer?

  • A staff writer is a byline that indicates that the author of the article at the hand is employed by the periodical that publish article as a regular staff member and as not as a freelance writer or special contributor.

  • If you want to be a staff writer a degree is not required for work as a television writer, but you do need education such as creative writing, English and film production. Courses in literary theory will help you create your own voice
  • Some staff writer get nervous when they pitch their script and they get fired because it not as good as they thought. Every staff writer gets a note to improve their script and that what some script writer hates.

What is the commissioning process, how do you get an idea commissioned

  • A Commissioning is where to put in or make for service of use, Ideas that are chosen for production.
  • Here are the job roles;
  • Commissioning editor- The commissioning editor will decide whether your idea will go into productions.
  • Executive Producer- Executive producer is responsible for ensuring the commissioner condition are met.
  • etc.
  • Here is one of the commissioning bodies;
  • Corporation- BBC

Why do you need an agent and what are the name of the some scriptwriters

  • Having an agent is important if you want to be a scriptwriter even if you get a producer interested on your own. Don't go near a contract without an agent because you can make a mistake that you can not redo your contract. So you need an agent so he can see if the contract is good for some script writing like money wise, what are the condition of giving your script etc.

How does a script get chosen

  • If your script is good enough you can tell your agent to contact and make some phone call to the people who reads the script and to see if they like it and want to make a production about the script or if it is terrible and they want nothing to do with it. You could also email the people who decides if the script is good enough and share your idea with them but make sure your agent have a read of your email if it is good enough,

How does a script writer  get paid

  • According to writersdigest they are saying that for each program they get paid so I think that for every script, scriptwriters they do they get paid. If a script get sold they get $300.000, but the writers gains an extra $200.000 if their script leads to production.
  • The script will get paid when the people who reads your script will like it and will make a production about it . That then when you will get the money but make syre you get your agent to look at the pay rate on the contract then try to negotiate it.

What legal issue do you have to worry about as a writer

  • The legal issue you have to worry as a writer is copy write when shorts are option, option agreement, real life stories/biography etc.
  • The reason why real life story and biography is an issue is because a script telling a true story may rely on on a number of difference sources such ad meterial in public or autobigoraphy which is copyright example biography will need to be cleared.

  • The word Plagiarism means that you are taking some one elses idea or take some one else work and you take credit of it and making it one of yours.
  • The word Libel mean that you are making/ publishing  a false statement that damages people reputation

What example are there of legal action involving scriptwriter of tv and film

  • According to the site npr.org it says and shows that a case between Reed Martins and Jim Jarmusch saying that film flowers is based on one of his own movie/ screenplay. It says that The dreams of screen play can be shattered if they can not get a actual film maker to read their own script. That shows that even famous people steal people film idea and take credit of it .

What do you think are some of the high points and low points of working as a writer for tv or film

  • In conclusion I think that the high points is that you can not steal anyone idea, try to make one of your idea and give it some thoughts so you do not get sued and get in court. The low point I would say is the agents, You have to find the perfect agent for you that can make your script a success so you can have a lot of money to your success and you can make more script. The reason why the agent is a low point is because there are many agents to choose from but you need to fine the right agent so you can be successful.

Unit 32 Assignment 2 (Update)

Production Diary

  • On Thursday 4th December 2014 I have Chosen my 3 ideas of what the itv music ident will be and look like. I wanted to mash up all my idea to turn them into one great idea. There has been nothing like my 3 idea smash together so i will enjoy editing it and adding music
  •  My whole idea took a while to think but i have found 3 ideas, I just need to choose one of the 3 ideas, something that has never been seen by the audience.
  • On Friday 5th December 2014 I have found out what my colour scheme is going to be on my 'itv logo' and the colour scheme is (dark red, pink, purple, and blue) It will match out with the video I have chosen
  • I have also done the target audience for 4 music and viva by getting information from the internet and taking screen shots, also explaining why the target audience is right for 4music and viva.
  • I have talked about the the design of different music channel and logo of different ident. I have talked about the logo of 4music and VIVA, the target audience, the colour and design of the logo etc.
  • I have design 3 itv logo for each ident I have chosen also I have done the story board explaining what will be in there and what type of music, camera shots will be in.
  • The brand ident look good to me because my ident is going to be all up to date, popular culture and it reflects the channel and music content.

LOGO

Main Logo

Ideas.
Crowd
1.My idea is get a found footage of a crowd, dancing and cheering with all the lights effect then edit     the found footage to put in the logo that I have creative and edit on the found footage. Once I have edited the logo in to the found footage there will be various of songs that will be add in there to make it more lively and fun. The music will be all the latest songs so it can match with the found footage.

Abstract
2. My second idea is also find a found footage but this is like a abstract design and with that design I will add in the itv logo, with the word 'Music' coming out of the logo or just popping up. The music will be added in to the found footage. The music will be different variety of music like some old song and some new songs.

slow mo paint
3. My third idea is another found video of plaint being thrown about in slow motion and it is an abstract design. With that design I will add in the itv logo at the end of the found video. The itv logo will appear when the paints are splatter together. There will be music in this to make it good and it can also catch the audience attention because it is colourful and eye catching with some latest songs.

Mind maps

  • The age bracket for this music ident is going to be like 16 years old and over the reason why I have done the age 16 is because some of the songs may include foul language.
  • There will be lots of colour in the ident like all the bright colour and the reason why am i using bright colour is that it can get the audience attention as they see the ident. There will be no location as it is a found video that I think it looks good and it will get the audience attention.

In this 4music logo you can see that they have done a design of a number 4 in a bright pink colour and that will attract the audience because the colour is eye catching and it stands out from far away. Also Inside the design of the 4 you can see that they have the writing of 'music' in bold and white writing The reason why they have done that is because they want the audience to know that the logo is a music logo/ channel so they dont think it is something else like a movie channel if it is a movie channel they would have put the word movie in the bright pink 4 sign but they put the word music in so they are letting the audience know that they are a music channel that do music and not like a movie channel. Also the colour contrasts is good because it is all eye catching that you can see from far and in close and that it stands out to get the audience attention. The bright pink colour targets girls because the logo is pink and it is feminism but it can also targets boys because some boys like the colour pink or that some audience like the music in 4music so it could targets both gender of the audience.

In This VIVA logo you can see that it is plane and boring with the colour of a dark pink which can get the audience attention because of its colour. Also as you can see to the Viva logo is slanted a bit it is not straight and probably the reason is because they wanted to be different from every other music company logo like 4Music. It is not like 4music where you can see that 4music have doen some effort to make it good and eye catching by adding the bright pink  to make it stands out and the white bold writing kust to stand out but on the VIVA you can see that they have made no effort they just add a bright colour so that the audience can see what brand it is. With the logo colour it can attract female because of the bright pink but it could also attract male because some male do like the colour of pink, or it could attract the audience because of the music choice so the target audience can be for both gender.

itv is a comercial/ program in the United Kingdom, The target audience for itv is for everyone, all the audience and that is because all the programs in itv are suitable for all the audience, (kids/young adults, teenagers, older adults).

4MUSIC
The target audience for 4music and viva are for 16 years old to 34 years old, here is an example of a picture saying the target audience.

VIVA
The target audience for viva are for young teens and young adult. The reason why they have done this is because the music in viva are like young
Here is an example of the target audience for viva .

Storyboard 1. Ident 1

 TV program

My idea is for a reality TV program and is a found footage of a crowd, dancing and cheering with all the lights effect then edit     the found footage to put in the logo that I have creative and edit on the found footage. Once I have edited the logo in to the found footage there will be various of songs that will be add in there to make it more lively and fun. The music will be all the latest songs so it can match with the found footage. The reason why I have chosen this as a tv program is

Countdown

My second idea is  for a TV count down and is also a found footage but this is lik a abstract design and with that design I will add in the itv logo, with the word 'Music' coming out of the logo or just popping up. The music will be added in to the found footage.  The music will be different variety of music like some old song and some new songs. In the music countdown ident there will be a countdown of the top 40 music. The reason why I have chosen this ident is because of the special effect of the circle, I was thinking that the logo will come up then disappear when the count down begins for every song that come on the logo will show then the countdown.

Documentary

My third idea is going to be for documentary and it is another found video of plaint being thrown about in slow motion and it is an abstract design. With that design I will add in the itv logo at the end of the found video. The itv logo will appear when the paints are splatter together. There will be music in this to make it good and it can also catch the audience attention because it is colourful
and eye catching with some latest songs. The reason why I think this ident is perfect for a documentary is because the way you look at it, it looks like a documentary type where there are paints thrown around it looks like a a documentary.

Unit 32 Assignment 1 designing indents

What is a Idents:

  • Short Video clips that ids a channel
  • Like a graphic
  • Carries the channels logo

ITV BE- Reality/ Targeted to women
E4- Animated makes it more interesting/quirky
BBC One- Genre of programming

Why we use an IDENT

- every channel have ident so they can show what genre of the programe it is, the brand identity or the programe that coem on next, section out the channel

- they target different people  of the demographic of the channel

- Ident tool for marketing, keep you intrest so you dont tue over

- we have more than one ident because it keep it interesting

- Ident can be seasonal, like Christmas stuff will be on the tv.

targeted men who liek sportGenre of programe and it is for men

  targeted men who like sport

The purpose of an ident

To persuade- idents are marketing tool so you dont change the channel they want you to carry on watching it.

To create a brand Identity- Consistency

To Break up programe- They break up the programe because the one that does not have advert like but ITV has advert.

Voice over is important on the tv programe because it is teling you what to watch

  • Camera
  • sound track
  • Voice over
  • Prop
  • Cast
  • Crew Swimming pool
  • Light

Opportunities

Brand

A good ident design for a brand can get good reputation and audience
The brand can be for other design job
You can get paid if you o a good job and if other brand want your ident you can charge them more

Design

Design- It can give you power and you can go on an edge with the design
If you have a borring ident design for example discover channel you can doa successful re- brand
The design can have a popular or have more viewers
you can have a shared piece of interest
Paid charge more
Restrictive contract on the design.

Limitation for a designer

Depending on the brief you might have to keep the colour
-Audience in mind
-Time scale

Knowledge-experience of brand and channel/ audience

Software Imitations-

Bad reputation for inconsistency, failure, poor skill set

Brief is not clear, you might get criticisms may not direct

Rubbish ident

For this ident I would say it is professionalism . The reason why I am saying this is because it is not professional it looks so wrong what they are doing. I understand it maybe funny for kids but it is not professional.
What they could do to make it look better is do like an illusion with the logo to make the audience thinking about it whilst it is a break or a program starting.

The Limitation for this ident is the design. The reason why I am saying the design is because the whole design is rubbish with two weird looking character fighting
What they could do to make it better is like get action figure or a fighting game just showing their wrestling moves.

The limitation for this ident is the creativity. It just look rubbish with the kites circling around the BBC One logo they should have thought something better than kites.
What they could do to make the ident better is is like get balloonsand just let it go in the sky with the logo coming in 3-5 second later.

BBC 4 Ident (Key color, text, speed, use of space

BBC Arts

Design Elements- (Colours,Texts, speed, space)- The BBC Art is fast pace with some Hand Transition. It shows a lot of Nature and the camera shots/video is all close up and some Mid shots on all nature stuff. There are many different colours under the logo, here are some examples Black and White, Pink.

Purpose- What is it used for- Audience it is targeting- Nature programs, it is like documentaries, footage is actually occurring, it is persuading as it shows a lot of images, people who like documentaries, nature and factual program. The age rating 30-48 years old.

Creative- Hand transitions pulling the images across the screen, video of octopus, The hand move with the lizard. The BBC 4 channel is a interesting creative channel.

compare
Which was most creative, More better at targeting and is more better for genre program.

The second BBC 4 Ident

BBC Arts (James Richard)

Design Elements- (Colours,Texts, speed, space)- The second BBC 4 ident is a slow pace, There are no transition in the second ident, It just shows birds in the ident, the camera angle is like a mid shot of all the bird flying, the colours in this ident are black, grey and white behind the same logo. It keeps the identity, The sound track is unique and unusual, you can hear the sound of the sea in this ident at a time at (0:10-0:18).

Purpose- What is it used for- Audience it is targeting- It sells the program, its Arty, The footage in the ident look factual and realism , In this ident they have lots of intresting shots like the birds it is cultural at the time of 0;24, show case of an genre program, it is like a documentaries, it get the audience thinking, it reflects on cultural program.

Creative- Movement in the background are very unusual, gets you guessing what is happening and aht is it, it messes with you mind and it is telling you that it is a very unusual channel, it also uses your imagination, it uses disorted images, black and white at the time of (0.01), it is like a dream feel like the camera is floating

BBC 4 Ident

BBC Art (John Smith)

Design Elements- (Colours,Texts, speed, space)- The logo is still the same following identity, There are colors like bluw and yellow in this ident as well, it slow pace but it gets faster as it continues, clever design, it has a theme, it has a picture of a bee, bee, sea and a number 4 in s style of a clock, it also has a sound for each one. At the time of 0:00-0:06 the B-B-C lettering come in every time when the clock strikes in sync (Four times)

Purpose- The purpose is to sell to the audience and persuade them to watch the channel, when they realise the clever thing they have done

Creative- They use creativity such as imagery to tell us the use of the channel this ident is very creative as i have discussed about it, it is clever for what they have done, weird and unusual is BBC 4 ident.

Compare-
I think the ident that is more creative is the 3rd ident the reason why I think that is because it is very creative, good use of imagery to spell out the name of the program, Bee, Bee, Sea, 4. This ident is the only one that stood out on me also with the color of the ident as well it is eye catching and colorful. They are weird and unusual when they make these ident but that is good because it is different from any other ident and it catches the audience attention .

Studio Production Diary

https://drive.google.com/?authuser=0#folders/0BwKLEeZ3dEOVelViWFVZeHR5V2s

My job role was a camera man and I found it exciting and enjoyable the reason why I found it fun is because it is quite simple once you get the hang of it.

What you had to do- I was a camera man and all I had to do is get the camera angle right for the shot and just zoom in, zoom out, pan etc. and just trying to make the video look good with the angle and other stuff.

How you think the team worked together- I know the team worked well because it went all well and we got a video so it all went well, everyone took their job seriously and it all went well

what you would do different next time - what I would do do different next time is try a another camera and get the angle right and  make it different from other people when they are on the camera.

UNIT 23 Assignment 1

A multi camera is were any TV shows, films uses more than one camera. The reason why they uses more than one camera is because so that they can shoot from different angle. Multi camera is a method for shooting films using many cameras. The camera are set up in different places in order to gain variety of shots. It also is use for cutting down the time taken to shoot.

A single camera production is were they they use one camera throughout a film or TV series. Each of the shots are taken individually using the same camera. The camera is then moved and reset to get a new shot or angle. Each of the shot was is filmed to correspond with other shots to create a sense of continuity allowing the audience to follow the story.

http://journeytosuccess92.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/multi-camera-techniques.html

http://laurenbaileysinglecameraproduction.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-single.html

http://jacksinglecameraproductionblog.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-single.html

The pros for multi camera production are

  • It would be impossible to film with a single camera at a live event like sports

The Cons for multi camera production are

  • live event the quality of multi camera footage is not quite up to the single camera. This is mostly for films as using a single camera allows you to frame each shot.

This clip uses multi camera techniques. The time code 0.29-0.49 shows how they use one camera to a wide shot of the goal and then at a time code of 0.49-0.55 shows that there was a fade into a close up and it another camera doing a close up of the player scoring goal. They have used more than one camera because with the wide shot is shows that it is following the player and the action of the ball.

This programme shows that they uses more than one camera. The time code 0.01-0.26 shows how they use one camera for a wide shot and the other for a close up. The reason why they uses them 2 technique is because with the wide shot it shows a wide view of the cube and the audience and with the second camera shot, the close up shows that the tension and facial reaction when they lose a life or win the game in the cube. The reason why they use close up is because it would be boring having a wide shot of the contestant playing the cube it needs to be close up because we can see what they are doing wrong or right.

This programme shows that they use more than one camera at a time code 0.02-0.10 shows that one camera uses a mid shot of the contestant then it pans to the presenter also it zooms in to the presenter. Also it takes a wide shot of the audience, the stage and the contestants. The reason ehy they do these shots at the start is because it shows how calm the contestants are it zoom in to the presenter because it shows the presenter and the reason why they show the stage and the contestant with a wide shot is because they want to show the stage

This clips shows that they use more than one camera at a time code of 0.13-0,39 shows that one camera pans and do a long shot of the people doing the sport and the other camera do a over the shoulder shot showing what the people doing. The reason why they also did a wide shot of the studio is because they are showing that they are watching it as well.

I would say that the that the cube and the football have both made really successful use of multi camera set up to allow the audience to follow the action and the game.out of these to I would say that the football uses the multi camera to make the audience cheer when they zoom in on the player goal to the audience cheering which make me want to cheer when they score. It would destroy the programme if they use only one camera.

Risk Assessment - Fashion

Risk Assessment- This Week Roundups  (VT)- Fashion

Location 1
Jade house/ Ashton

The Risks
i. People coming in the way when they are filming
ii. If half of the crew go on their own and don’t know where they are going
iii. They take the wrong equipment/ forget some equipment
iiii. They didn’t bring the prop for the VT

How we solve the risks.
i. They can solve this risk by having the co director or the production manager to stop the people from camera set up and filming.
